Meet Steve Hipsman

For nearly 50 years, Steve Hipsman has helped homeowners, interior designers, and businesses bring new life to their furniture through expert craftsmanship, attention to detail, and personalized service.

Roman Upholstery was founded in 1976 by Steve’s father, Art Hipsman, who established a foundation built on quality and integrity. Steve joined the company in 1978, learning the trade hands-on as an apprentice in the shop and developing both his technical skill and a customer-first approach that continues to define the business today.

Steve now leads a team of seven skilled professionals, including upholsterers, seamstresses, and a dedicated cutter. Together, they provide a full range of services, from restoring heirloom pieces and repairing well-loved furniture to creating custom sectionals, upholstered beds, slipcovers, outdoor cushions, and one-of-a-kind designs.

Nearly all work is completed in-house, allowing for exceptional quality control from start to finish. Clients may supply their own fabric or leather, or select from a curated collection of premium materials available through the shop.
